![]() ![]() Isn’t rooting for Dave, the mogul, akin to rooting for the Yankees, the Cowboys, and the Heat? In this economy, how dare I root for the rich to get richer? How dare I thwart the growing Occupy Newport Consignment Gallery movement?īarry and Brandi (Darrell isn’t even worth discussing, is he?) are hardly underdogs. I’m supposed to say “aWho doesn’t like watching Brandi walking around the storage lots? Who hasn’t noticed that she’s storing two Peter Dinklage heads in her bra? Who hasn’t stared into her ferrety eyes and fantasized about a future of digging through tubs of porn and gardening tools? Who hasn’t sent her e-mails and letters asking her about what she plans on doing once her husband drives Now and Then Thrift Store into the ground? Who doesn’t feel a rush of empathy every time her idiot husband buys a locker based on a “gut feeling”? Who doesn’t value her business acumen, her economy, her ability to Google mysterious items and come up with an immediate appraisal? I’m supposed to root for Barry, the charming pun machine with the hundred-dollar voice and the charming gloves and the charming Standard Hotel tan. By all measures - save one - Storage Wars should be the least interesting of all these shows.īut what Storage Wars has - and why I keep coming back - is a bona fide superstar: Dave Hester. It doesn’t have the implicit danger and good-natured cursing of The Deadliest Catch or Ice Road Truckers. ![]() It doesn’t have the geriatric cuteness of Antiques Roadshow, it doesn’t have the Vegas weirdness of Pawn Stars. ![]() Storage Wars isn’t all that much different from about a dozen television shows on basic cable where people do something to make money. So why can’t I stop watching a show that features a bunch of people wandering around storage yards in Southern California? Why do I it find necessary to re-watch the one where Darrell finds a mannequin phone? Or the one where Dave finds those weird Japanese gaming machines? Or the one where Barry finds that Munch-ian head sculpture? Why do I find myself Googling “What does Barry on Storage Wars really do for a living?” Why do I find myself planning road trips to the Newport Consignment Gallery? I’ve never rented a storage unit or been to an auction of any sort. There’s no clear explanation for this obsession - I’ve never had any interest in antiques, furniture, collectibles, or clutter. The show has aired 52 episodes, which, clearly, is not enough to feed the beast. It is starting to come off like the show is desperate for anyone to step in place of some of the ones that aren't on anymore or to often.I have a Storage Wars problem. There is just stuff about them that is not likable at all. The new ones they have been bringing in are just not cutting it. From what I saw when looking up who they were, they have been trying to get on tv for awhile now. The whole "OMG this is vintage" when its far from vintage just bugs me. I tried to look it up and found nothing but we figured he was another one of his kids or nephew like you said. I hope for his sake that his stupidity is part of the shctick the producers want from him because otherwise hoo boy! I read somewhere (I think the wiki article on Storage Wars) that he is Darryl's nephew. I like when she and Brandy team up with the new auctioneer - three nice gals :). I still can't stand her voice or her laugh or her "silly little me, giggle, giggle" attitude especially when she first came on, but overall I think she's a nice person and her persona has improved over the years. I didn't catch it before but who is Chad to Darrell? There is something about that guy that was pretty creepy like too I thought. The old SM acct for their store hasn't been used in a long time and the line for the store is dead. That is the only thing I see linked to his acct. I can't see his clothing line selling to many. I figured they are doing the show still as it might be their only income coming in at this point. I am guessing at this point unless most viewers know that these 2 don't have their stores at all they don't question things with the show. My husband said maybe not if they didn't want viewers just showing up but I disagree. I would think they would gladly splash it all over their SM accts if they had a new store and where it was or if they even sold at swap meets. I don't think they are selling at swap meets either. I can't find anything for them having a store. Are they doing swap meets or selling online or something? IF they've reopened a store that would make more sense. I didn't catch that part but I kept wondering why they were buying lockers if they don't have a store. ![]()
